I’m possible.

On my way to this reality

with much trepidation

Inexplicable anxiety

I’m possible

And that’s enough for me.

I’m possible

In the meantime of my life’s journey

Taking advantage of every downtime

And  preparation time

Because the celebration of my highlight reels

Is within my time on mother earth

I’m possible.

I’m possible

Able to do much more

In love with the reality of me

Accepted in the beloved

flooded with mercy

Encapsulated in Grace

I’m possible.

Conversations with my 14year old Son.

Sometimes I wish my two teenagers are still toddlers, who couldn’t argue with you or question you. At the same time, we know that the only constant thing in life is change, and change comes as result of growth. Raising great kids is not an easy task, and so is letting them leave your nest when the time comes.

I had to engage my teenage Son in a long talk this evening, after he and his younger brother were scolded by their dad, as soon as he got home , he had given them specific instructions in the morning before they left for school, but forgot as soon as they got home, only to find them sitting in front of the TV when he got back home.

The Dad was really angry with both him and his brother, but he had to take the large portion of the scolding because he is supposed to know better and because I didn’t want to add salt to the injury, though I had given them the same instructions earlier,  I waited until the tension was cool before intervening.

You will agree with me if you’ve got teenage children that the children we are raising in today’s world find it so easy to huddle quickly into their rooms with their gadget,; PlayStations, laptops, phones etc. consciously and unconsciously they imbibe a pop culture that is anti-ethical to everything healthy family.  We as parents have to conscious of these things and make sure we are able to guide them right.

Parenting as God has designed it, can be achieved if we learn to go back to God for the wisdom to do it especially in this day and age of Internet and Modernization. As I began my conversation with him, I didn’t start with being confrontational, because when you start with confrontations, they recede and get defensive, once they get defensive you may not be able to get the right pieces of information.

At first, he was all macho and was like, mum I don’t want to talk about it, you see lately we can’t force them to talk or even look us in the face. Our teenagers can be intimidating sometimes. As the conversation progressed he opened up and for a one and half hour we talked about everything from his performance in school, and his challenges.

He just joined the High School, immediately after his Junior Secondary exams, so it was a bit hard for him to mingle with his classmates who have been in the school since its inception, on many occasions he had complained about how rude some of the students were to their teachers, which he found completely strange, and I would always tell him that he has been wired differently to always respect people, those who are older and those of his peer. He still doesn’t have many friends.

I reminded him of a passage in Proverbs which says something about first becoming friendly if you have friends ( I can’t remember the exact place in proverbs. So I asked if he is friendly, and also asked him why he wanted friends.  We went through Friendship 101. which entails

  1. Making friends is not as scary as he thinks ( he sometimes
  2. . Take the first step and say hello
  3. Get to know the person- Does he/she value the things you value, do you share similar goals, aspirations.
  4. Be yourself- You must not try to be what you are not all for the sake of being trendy or fresh.

I also encouraged him to talk to God about his friendship issue and at that point, our conversation took a deep dive into another realm.

Mum, does God really care that much to be concerned about my friends?.

Oh yes, He does! He cares so much about you much more than anybody else, and yes much more than your parents. God loves you more than you can even imagine and he is interested in the most mundane area of your life.

We had led him and his younger brother to Christ at the ages of 8 and 6 respectively, and have ever since then been helping to know God for themselves, so when he asked me if God really cared about a certain area of life, I had to remind him again that God cares for everything about him no matter how “irrelevant” he thinks  it may be. The importance of prayer, Heaven and all the in-betweens

As we talked, he asked me questions about my life as a teenager, I shared about how I thought my Parents didn’t like me because they were always picking on me because I am the first child, so I understood his own thoughts and behavioural patterns because I was like that too. By the time we ended the discussion, he felt much better and was thankful for the mother-son moment.

I was much more grateful that I have been given the privilege to be a custodian, alongside the husband, of these great minds, though sometimes parenting can be tedious by the grace of God, wisdom and strength is released when we ask God, who gave them to us.

Help Others… find their voice.

It’s Friday, the end of another working week. It is also the day I get to spend time with my team of musicians to rehearse, pray and generally prepare ourselves for the programs we have ahead.

We haven’t met in the last two weeks, so today’s meeting was very crucial and important too because I have been doing some mental assessment of the team, and also planning new goals to achieve collectively.

As they came in one after the other, I started engaging them in conversation buttressing on the need for all of to step up in other to take the team to another level of productivity and higher impact in our service first to God and then humanity.

As Stephen Covey said, about the 8 habit, moving from effectiveness to greatness. As you grow it is important to help others to grow by helping them to unleash their human potentials and capabilities to the fullest- This is one of the main cruces of true leadership. when a leader has found his or her voice in which lies the discovery of talents, understanding passion and using the talents and passion to meet the needs around with a clear conscience to do right and be right then it is expedient that the leader helps those around him to find theirs as well.

I believe this is a kind of paying it forward in leadership.

In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out.It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. we should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.”   ALBERT SCHWEITZER.

How can you help other people find their voices? First and Foremost you must have found yours. We are always surrounded by people- family, friends, workmate, colleagues, church community and on and on.

  • Affirming others- Offering emotional support and encouragement to the people around us, helping them to be the best version of themselves at every point in time. This is so important in the parent relationship with their children.
  • Unite others- Making all joints supply for a common goal, it is the responsibility of leadership to combine and incorporate so as to form a single whole.
  • Motivate and inspire- provide them with a reason to do something, propel them and not only that make them feel they have the potentials to achieve the unimaginable.
  • providing the enabling environment for others to thrive- voices can’t be found in a harsh and austere environment, therefore the onus is on leaders to provide an environment where people can blossom with their talents and passion.

In what ways are you helping the people around you to find their voices? Remember everything rises and falls on Leadership, whether in the home front or at work or in the community.

When you find your voice, you motivate and help others find theirs.

Wisdom Wednesday!

Distraction is a hindrance to distinction.

Focus and pay attention to the things that matter and are of utmost value.

Life  keeps moving forward

It does not care what I think or say or do,

Why, waste time on time on thing I can’t control.

Reinvent your Life-Take a cold bath!

There’s so much information out there on how to reinvent your life, and while they are quite helpful, it can also be overwhelming sifting through them

What I have found out is that it’s best if you take what works for you and apply it.

For example in one of Benjamin Hardy’s posts, he highlights many tips to living the happy life. One of such tips is the Cold Shower Bath-bathing with cold water every now and then.

He states that the use of a cold bath has numerous benefits, this struck me and I decided to give it a try.

When I did, I was really excited about the soothing feeling and the sensation I felt on my skin.

Needless to say that ever since I have been using Ice cubes(a lot of them too) in my bath water, so much so that my sons have tried it too. I was amazed at some of the things I discovered.

Whenever I feel tensed or worked up, and can’t figure out the cause of my uneasiness, I just drop huge chunks of Ice into the bathtub, fill it with water, and spend some time soaking  in the coolness.

This sends soothing vibes to my brain and before long, my mood changes. It’s as if the cold water has a tickling sensation and I don’t when I end letting out a giggle.

You could  try this for the fun of it, and it could even act as a cool remedy for the Lagos heat.Even hubby has joined our ice-cold shower club. So, I now keep bowls of water in the freezer, and when the heat is unbearable, I just throw them in the bathtub and literally chill out!

Apart from the soothing effects, here are some health benefits associated with the ice-cold shower.

Increase Alertness-The rush of blood through the entire body caused by the ice-cold shower gives a boost of energy that lasts the entire day. I had a cold bath the previous night and up till the time of writing this post, I still feel energised.

Anti-depressant- This is also a great remedy for depression. It eases out stress and makes you livelier.

Rejuvenates skin and hair- The ice-cold shower helps to tighten the cuticles and pores which prevent clogging.

It also makes the hair shinier.

The cold water helps to seal the pores in the skin and scalp. It is one of the anti-aging secrets for keeping your skin tight, elastic and vibrant.

Improves Immunity and circulation-Cold water can improve circulation by encouraging blood flow surrounding our organs. It also helps to lower blood pressure

It promotes growth and repair of the circulatory system by stimulating capillary beds.

Give this practice a try and let’s know what you think 😉

Have a chilling ,beautiful weekend.
