Parental Care.Mirror Image.

I took a deep breath , Hmm! I sighed. Parental Care, nurturing and everything running through my mind. Lord help me I Muttered a word of prayer.

This morning, my younger son came into my room, holding a book in his hands. It was a book my Husband bought some years back when we started raising children- How To Raise A Gentleman by Kay West.

“Mum, Can I Show you something? He asked”.

Yes ,what is it? Then he opened  the first chapter of the book- Leading the way to good manners-26 Things to remember. I knew I was in for some serious debate as he began to point out a few things and coincidently they were points I had noted while I read the book a while back.

Let me show you some of the points he showed me.

*Listen to your child when he speaks to you, even if you’ve heard it before.

Do not discipline your child in front of others.

*Do not give in to temper tantrums.( I looked into his eyes ,like  did you read that, and he gave a grin like mom we are talking about you. We started our discuss, of course, he was trying to be defensive based on the book ,and I ask him , have you read any book that talks about how to behave like a gentleman, how to respond to your parents.

We started our discuss, of course, he was trying to be defensive based on the book ,and I ask him , have you read any book that talks about how to behave like a gentleman, how to respond to your parents.

As we went back and forth, I just couldn’t help but reminisce on those times, when they were still tiny tots, how I cuddled and breastfed, stay awake all nights because the crying baby won’t stop whining.

That tiny tot is now showing and telling me how to raise him to be a gentleman, I said Lord, please help me! It is amazing to know that they are growing day by day and watching everything we do as parents.

Every action and every word spoken is captured in their hearts, and sometimes you just see them doing some things and saying things that make you wonder.

This same 10year old has been asking me to get him a laptop for Christmas, and I asked him, what he wanted to use a laptop for, he told me he wants to start blogging like his mummy. I laughed!

I told him it wasn’t time yet for him start using such gadget ,that he should start writing in his notebook, that was how I started.  He said if somebody who is 7 years old can have a laptop why can’t he?

There and then, we had to start another discussion on not comparing ourselves with others, being content with who we are and what we have. Sometimes I even don’t know what else or how else to respond to them.

Parenting can be such a hard work, I wondered how my mom coped with me and my five siblings? but then it is obvious that the strategies of the early 70’s -80’s are almost obsolete to want is obtained in this day and age.

One truth remains unchanged and unshaken through the ages, though.

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old ,he will not depart from it

My prayer for every parent is that God will help us to mirror Christ, through the integrity of heart and strength of character to our children appropriately . That we will help them to understand that as their parents we are co-workers to make sure that they become everything they have been designed to be and do, on this side of eternity present.

train-up

We are not macho men and women,we are humans and sometimes we don’t know all as parents.

From a work-in-progress parent!

Contentment in an insatiable world #2.

This is a follow up to my post Contentment in an unsatiable world #1.

I sat down to do my usual morning routine which involves the meditational reading of the scriptures, and I happened to be reading the book of 1st Timothy 6:1- 21. As I read and meditated I couldn’t help the questions that kept coming to my mind.

How do you find contentment in a world like ours where there is so much craving for more of this and more and more of that?

How do you explain  your contentment without been seen as one without the drive to accumulate?

Godliness with contentment is great gain! #selah!

Contentment is a state of happiness and satisfaction when you think about all that you are grateful for, somehow you feel a sense of contentment, but you may not necessarily be happy, especially when you know that there is room for more and the capacity for “greater” has been imputed to you.

Therefore you are willing and ready to press further and further within the confines of your ethos and value system out of reverence and obedience to God,without harming or causing havoc for your fellow neughbours. I believe this is part of the central theme of this chapter in question.

Contentment isn’t so much of a kind of happy, I believe it is more about a peaceful ease of mind based on your compliance and faith in God, which makes you not to be envious or jealous of someone’ else journey, rather you celebrate them as you also celebrate yourself where you are, because you have a deeper understanding that the road map you have is completely different from others.

Despite the fact that you admire their achievements and trophies of the journey, it is not a do or die affair for you to want to live another man’s life or another man’s dream.

Here is my submission at the end of pondering and meditating;

Godliness with contentment is great gain… is more like enjoying who you are,and what you have,on your way to where you are going according to the blueprint and plan of God for your life.

RUN BABY RUN…Pursuing your life’s purpose.

One of my first post from the archives, still very apt . Run Baby Run,with every fibre in you, the race that is set before you.

The king'soracle.

Every man woman boy or girl old or young on this side of eternity present has been designed by God to fulfil purpose in one form or another, and that can be proven from the beginning of beginnings, Genesis, where the whole dynamics of creation was set in motion.

He gave man authority and dominion to influence the earth realm.God imputed to every man from Adam, the capacity to become his very best but the manifestation didn’t come overnight. There is a process to becoming!

This week I will like to focus my discuss from an old film I watched many years back, now I am not quite sure it was a movie or  the title of a song way back then. well, in any case,  I loved the slogan and did use it in my first book. I will like to use it again to drive home some thoughts running…

At The Beach!

It’s time

Let’s  get going

Fun time is it

When we gather at the beach

Sandcastle in the sand

The waters whirl with the tides

With the shades, I see the sun

Kissing softly on my skin

seashells

Let’s gather some sea shells

The children love to sell

It always a great fun time

At the beach.
