Tell It As It Is.

Over the weekend there was a discussion that came up from the online University that I enrolled in #Purpose University. The discussion stemmed out of the podcast from the director of the school. It was centered on telling one’s story as  one  of the ways of walking in the fullness of one’s purpose on this side of eternity present.

It was made clear that ,most of the time, the things we experience on this journey called Life is indicative of what each one of us is designed to be and do.

Though there were differing opinion on the subject matter, as some of the discussants were of the opinion that not all stories are worth telling, but if we look at it from the angle of using stories for the discovering of our purposes and running them well, Then it is expedient to share our stories,{The good , the bad, and the in betweens}.

Life is full of experiences, and the most authentic life on purpose is that of transparency.

Why is it difficult to tell our story of shame, defeat, and those ones that makes look somehow with others,it is because we don’t want to be seen as weak, or vulnerable instead we try to always paint pictures of a perfect “goody too shoe” life, that is not always the truth.

Sometimes we are also afraid of taking responsibilities for those seemingly ‘ugly’ episodes of our story lines, the truth of the matter if we are truly living the God-life and totally trust him we will understand that when we own up and take responsibility, the greater the chances of freedom, that freedom leads to the freedom of others as they hear our stories.

Instead of going round and round in circles trying to find your purpose, why don’t you ask yourself, what is my story? what is the pattern of life that is peculiar to me? As you begin to ask these questions, you also find that you are able to help someone else with a similar story of life looking for a clue or two.

In your vulnerability lies also your strength, because it takes a strong person to stand and tell…it as it is! Your story is your take off point for the discovery and the pursuit of purpose.

One of the advantages of telling your story is that it frees you from the burden of keeping it to yourself, thereby causing more pain, depression and which often leads to suicidal attempts.

Telling your story is also a way of confronting your fears, because what you confront can condemn you. sometimes they may be stories of shame, that you don’t want to admit to yourself, let alone tell others because of the label or the stigma that goes with your story, the truth is once you are able to share, you get past the labeling and the stigmatization with time.

Every story can be woven into the fabric of your purpose , to create a tapestry of a life hinged on purpose with every shade of the different seasons of your life. Sometimes certain dark sides may not come as necessary inclusion because they don’t relate to one’s journey but the truth is that your freedom in telling it ,will free others.

What if my story scares people away from me? Your story of truth cannot drive people away, yes, they may not want to warm up to you at first, but with time, they will begin to come , sometimes in disguise, but they will not run away especially because you are now like a fountain spring of succor.

Looking through the pages of the Scriptures , we find purpose driven patriarchs and matriarchs who by their stories brought freedom and great deliverance for the people in their time. Moses was one major reference who at one point in his journey of life was labelled  a ‘murderer’ in trying to run away from that stigma, was the opening point for the great woek of deliverance, God had for him.

What about Apostle Paul, his stories ended up becoming great admonition and succour for the early believers, and it is still relevant through the age.

Our stories can birth great deliverance, cause reformation and bring changes to our world, when we tell the stories as it is,without being  seen as vulnerables,or weaklings.

It’s time to tell your story as it is, own it, be authentic about it, you may be saving a life as you share your exxperience on this journey of life.

Psalm 107:2

Let the redeemed of the LORD  tell their story, those he redeemed from the hand of the foe.

Have you been redeemed from tha hand of foes in the name of Domestic violence, rape, assault, depression, low self esteem, drug addiction, pornography, rejection and all those foes waging war at you?

It’s time to tell your story, someone out there needs it….Now!

Get up and Go tell it!

Fantastic post…and so true. I find that if we stay closely connected to God, He will also lead us and show us ways in how we can tell our stories, so that others may be helped by them.

I am short of words to describe how lovely this post is! “Every story can be woven into the fabric of your purpose , to create a tapestry of a life hinged on purpose with every shade of the different seasons of your life”
    Thank you for this
